I have less than an hour to get this post published in time so I decided to do a roll of the computer mouse over 3836 photographs in one of my Lightroom catalogues and see where the cursor landed.
It stopped on this magnificent Barking Owl that I photographed at Healesville Sanctuary – a bird that would definitely be happy with a roll of a different kind of mouse.
Barking Owls can turn their heads a remarkable 270 degrees, I think this must be pretty much the full turn. The pose shows off its beautiful feathers, formidable bill, the glassy curve of its huge yellow eye and the spiky rictal bristles around its bill.
Take care out there, happy birding, Kim
NB I’ll answer last week’s comments when I can and I’ll rescue new comments from spam, hopefully the issue will be fixed soon

The reason why they turn their head because they cannot move their eyes. (x sanctuary guide.) Fascinating.
I am letting you know that comments are going to Spam and mine have not been rescued. It is important to provide water for wildlife and I was wanting to thank you, Sam
That’s a pretty phenomenal head turn!
