Caring and sharing

A caring, sharing image for Christmastime.

Fantail Feeding

Grey Fantail (Rhipidura albiscapa)
1/1250, f/5.6, ISO 3200

~

This image seems to typify many aspects of Christmas including eating, giving, caring and sharing along with the frenetic busyness of the parent birds snapping bugs from the air in acrobatic swoops. The juvenile fantail begs for food by calling when it sees the adult returning, then opening its bill as wide as possible and rapidly fluttering its wings.

I like to ensure that a lirralirra post goes out at Christmas but apologise that this week’s post is so brief; I’m busy with my version of acrobatic swooping.

Wishing you everything you wish for yourself.

Happy birding, Kim

You did very well with your acrobatic swooping!

I always feel bad for parent birds dealing with the constant nagging and pestering of their babies. It seems like they’re doing the bird equivalent of taking their kids to the supermarket all day long. Merry Christmas!

That’s a funny thought! But they only do it for a few weeks, and quite a few species get help from older siblings. At least they don’t have to worry about finding somewhere to park, though I guess they’ve got plenty of other things to worry about.

  • Great capture and happiest of holidays to you! I’ve been doing some of that too (and getting away from technology for a while) so now I”m going to go see what I’ve missed from you!

  • Gorgeous image – and yes, it does depict the business of the season well.
The Merriest of Christmases to you and yours. And I hope your acrobatic swooping has gone well.
