There is something soothing about watching fairy-wrens, even when I’m as low as I can get myself and all kinds of stones, sticks and ants are beneath me.
Superb Fairy-wren (Malurus cyaneus)

Low level images give the feeling that we have entered the bird’s world – I like that. Superb Fairy-wrens forage on the ground, usually where the plants and twigs are only a few centimetres high. This little bird is probably looking at her reflection in my lens. Her legs look crazily spindly.

These images were taken one minute and two seconds apart but they have captured quite different backgrounds. I often prefer darker backgrounds but I might be in the minority as many others speak fondly about backgrounds speckled with circles of confusion.
I received results from the WPAI international photography exhibition today and last week’s image, The Pollinator, was awarded ‘Best of Birds’, which was a lovely surprise. Many thanks for the kind feedback on that image.
Happy birding

Lirralirra.. Beautiful
Thank you Dean. I often think of you when I’m watching birds, especially when I see interesting behaviour (like bee-tossing) or strange postures that doesn’t look at all realistic.
Aw such sweet little things! Congratulations on your award! It is so well deserved x
Thank you Lissa, it received another award this week, a nice gold one x
Lovely photos, Kim.
Congratulations on your award.
Well deserved.
Thank you Carole. We really must catch up again soon, it’s been way too long
Not in the slightest bit surprised that The Pollinator was Best of Birds. You might be, but I doubt that any who visit you here were.
Love the Fairy-wren. Superb is an apt name for them.
Now you have me wondering who named them ‘Superb’, and their cousins ‘Splendid’ – they are very apt names
gorgeous shots. Love the backgrounds, especially in the top one.
It’s always interesting to hear which images people like, thank you.
Incredible shots and I can see why you are so attracted to these little lovelies!
Lovely to hear from you Sherry. They are gorgeous little birds, I could watch them for hours
Sure this is most gorgeous bird. Very beautiful and amazing.
