A Christmas ‘smile’ from a beautiful bird.
I love the colours of Mulga Parrots, they are truly beautiful birds. I don’t usually alter my images this way and I didn’t alter this one. One of my beautiful girls runs the facebook group Australian Native Parrot Protection Authority and she added the Christmassy look to this photograph. For some reason it’s made me notice the way this bird’s upperparts are fluffed up, so pretty.
Thinking of you all, hoping you and your families are going well, and hoping that Christmas brings you much birdsong and happiness.
Happy birding, Kim

My apologies to anyone whose comment I accidentally deleted. I saw someone mention the turquoise of the barrel matching the bird but before I could save it it had gone. So sorry!
I echo the sentiments made by Barbara Devine. It is always a pleasure to open your emails and find such great photography of our beautiful bird species. To add to what Barbara said about bowls of water for the birds. The more bird baths around properties the better. Make them high for the birds but put some low for the other animals that need a drink during dry and hot times. May 2021 bring peace, joy and a working Covid-19 vaccine for the world.
That’s really kind Linda, thank you. I’ll mention bird baths in a new post, thank you for adding to Barbara’s reminder. And yes, I definitely agree with your hopes for the world, Kim
Oops: That is a Mulga Parrot – no ring around the neck.
I must have been VERY distracted to write that Judy, especially as Mulgas are my favourite parrots. Thanks for pointing it out
Merry Christmas to you and yours and thank you for making this incredibly difficult year so much better. To receive your email and open it to be greeted by the most beautiful, intriguing and enchanting birds is an absolute joy and pleasure. It brings a smile to your face and every photo captures a precious and unique moment in time. Thank you for sharing, caring and your passion and commitment to ensure that these beautiful feathered friends are shared with all the world. Stay happy, healthy, safe and SANE and may 2021 be a great year for all the world. PS special request from all our feathered friends to remember to put out bowls of water and fill the bird bath.
Thanks so much Barbara, and thank you for the reminder to remind readers about water. Wishing you all the best too, Kim
Thanks for your lovely photos during the year Kim. Very best wishes for the New Year. Valda
And thank you for your exquisite artwork Valda, you have extraordinary talent, Kim
What amazing colours. perfect to add to the Christmas cheer. We had a pair of King Parrots visit on Christmas Eve. They sat on the edge of the table on our deck. Also magnificent.
How awesome to have been visited by the King Parrots (I hope you added them to your list). Maybe I’ll get to see them soon…
I hope your Christmas was all that you could have hoped for and that the year to come is bursting with birds. And their songs.
And I wish the same for you EC, with lots of beautiful blossoms and some friendly roos added to the mix
Aw bless it looks so sweet in its wee Santa hat! Merry Christmas Mum! Xoxox
Thank you so much for putting it together for your page, I wouldn’t have thought of doing, or been able to if I had thought of it! xoxox
