Doesn’t she look bold and beautiful!
This female Superb Fairywren was foraging among the pebbles at Cranbourne Royal Botanic Gardens. She moved crazily quickly as she darted after bugs and focussing on her tiny eye was quite a challenge.
The soft, warm colours in this shot are very appealing to me. By setting my aperture wide open this tiny fairywren is isolated from the background. I find myself examining every detail of her daintiness, from the tip of her tail to the tip of her bill (complete with specks of dirt), right down to her dainty feet and her sharp little nails.
Happy birding, Kim

Just superb )pun unintended!). I love the softness of the background, highlighting the features of the wren. And thank you for providing your camera settings.
Thank you Fiona. It’s such a pleasure to photograph these beautiful little birds. My pleasure re the camera settings, if you ever have questions about settings etc feel free to contact me (facebook, email or here) and I’ll help if I can.
A gorgeous photo! The colours are lovely. Thank you for sharing it.
I often like the softer colours too Chrissie, and think that the subtle colouring of the females is just as beautiful as the males.
She (and her mate) are named completely appropriately. The small birds often move faster (and less predictably) than greased lightening. This is a truly wonderful capture.
Some of the fairywren names are so perfect, like Superb, Splendid and Lovely. It’d be pretty funny if all birds were named in a similar way, Gangly Emu for instance.
