The Birdlife Australia Photography for 2021 were announced yesterday and my Peeking Goose is a finalist in the Birds in the Landscape category.
These magnificent geese were almost extinct a few decades ago, but thanks to extraordinary work from conservationists they are now doing well.
I have always been fascinated by how many creatures must be watching us as we wander about in nature; they will be hiding in so many places. I stay watchful for tiny movements but hadn’t seen this large goose until it lifted its head and curiously peeked at me through the rushes. Focussing on its tiny eye as it moved its head back and forth was pretty tricky, I was rapt to manage it.
There are eight categories in this competition full of outstanding images that will delight bird lovers (though the Human Impact section is less beautiful despite being so important). To enjoy the photographs click this link: Birdlife Australia Photography Awards
Many thanks to everyone along the way whose kind words and encouragement always mean so much to me.
Happy birding, stay safe, Kim

Oodles of congratulations for this photo Kim. A great concept and makes you think for sure about whats out there watching us.
It’s neat to think about isn’t it. There must be so many critters watching us.
Congratulations Kim. Chris and I both loved your image – made us smile.

Thanks Georgina, and Chris! Your images in the line-up are absolutely brilliant. I can’t begin to imagine how good it must be not to be living in lockdown. Hopefully I’ll get to remember one day…
Congratulations! Kim, you are so deserving of the acknowledgement, not just photography skills but your passion for our wildlife.
That’s really kind of you Syndy, really lovely to hear on yet another day in lockdown, thank you, Kim
At last I found a way to comment.
Stunning image. Congratulations – and hooray for a successful conservation effort. We need a LOT more of them.
I must get that issue sorted out EC, I have no idea what’s happening but you’re not the only one it affects. Thanks heaps for your congrats and I definitely agree re conservation efforts.
Congratulations!
Thanks heaps Stephen!
Wow this is awesome Kim, and with a delightful caption. Smiling I sure was! 🤗💖👌Congratulations on being a finalist again with this gorgeous pic! I LOVE how you explain the context and wrap a story around each beautiful photo you take. It’s always such a buzz to find some gorgeous face peering out of its hiding spot, especially when we least expect it! Much gratitude to your focus on conservation effort for species like this.
Oh that’s lovely Denise, I’m super pleased it made you smile too. Thanks for your lovely comment and for all you do for conservation too, Kim

Thanks Paul, you must be a bird photographer! It was interesting, what with the goose moving and the reeds swaying. I was pretty lucky, Kim
