It’s been a tough week so I’ve especially enjoyed seeing this Eastern Yellow Robin shaking its tail feathers at the birdbath.
There is something very restful about watching Eastern Yellow Robins as they patiently perch and survey the ground for invertebrates.
It was funny to watch this one bathing, creating such full-on splashes that I couldn’t see the bird at all. But I did manage to capture the post-bathing ruffle of its wings and the shaking of its tail feathers. I love the way the relatively low shutter speed of 1/800th of a second has allowed the blur of the movement to show. The image also shows the olive-yellow feathers of its rump. Such a pretty little bird!
The photograph above is one of my favourites which I’m sharing again in case anyone isn’t familiar with the beautiful underparts of this robin. This shot won first place for prints in the Victorian Association of Photographic Societies statewide competition a few years ago. It was also taken at my place.
Happy birding, and to help avoid stitches on your forehead please remember to wear a hat, Kim

So beautiful. Take care of your poor noggin and don’t trust a hairy hat xox
Yes, very good advice! xox
Bathing birds are a most excellent antidote for difficult days/weeks. And this is a beauty. Thank you so much – and I hope next week is much better for you.
They are definitely an antidote, and a distraction. I hope you have a good week too EC
