Despite being crazily busy I have the perfect image to share this Christmas.
Little Pied Cormorant (Microcarbo melanoleucos)
1/1250, f/6.3, ISO 400
At this time of year I have many friends who manage to perform the most amazing balancing acts, visiting two or three lots of family within 24 hours, getting the right food and gifts delivered to the right people, and hopefully enjoying the experience.
Little Pied Cormorants can be found across Australia so hopefully you’ll see one during the holiday season. They are approximately 60cm long and weigh about 500-800g. The bird above is an adult as it has white colouring above its eye. This image shows the beautiful bronze sheen of the dark feathers on their wings and tail. The tail is wedge-shaped and comparatively longer (in relation to the length of its neck) than the tail of other cormorants. I think its foot looks particularly fascinating, very reptilian.
Wishing you a Christmas filled with birdsong
Kim
