These assertive, striking honeyeaters at Hattah Kulkyne kept me entertained for a very long time.
Yellow-plumed Honeyeaters have distinctive upswept yellow neck plumes, heavily streaked underparts, down-curved bills, olive-green heads, grey-green upperparts and a faint yellow stripe beneath their eyes.
They are mid-sized honeyeaters, measuring about 16cm and weighing in at about 17g.
I like the way the image above shows the colours of its upperparts and tail.
These honeyeaters were coming down to drink. I stayed in my vehicle, using it as a mobile hide to watch their antics.
They are pretty assertive birds and all of them wanted to be the next one to drink. They feed on insects, lerps and nectar.
Hattah Kulkyne is right at the top of my list to get back to as soon as we can get out and about again.
Happy birding from home, Kim

bringing back happy memories. Many thanks. They all have attitude which I love.
That makes me happy Togram, thank you for letting me know 🙂
Yet another bird which falls firmly into the feathered enchantment category (albeit enchantment with attitude).
Many thanks – and I hope that the shingles beast is backing off.
‘Enchantment with attitude’! I love the way you express things so perfectly and so succinctly EC
Gorgeous little birds! I particularly love the beak open shot too!
Thank you Alyssa. They’re such little characters!
Some birds seem to have an opinion about everything. That does make good entertainment. These are beautiful photos Kim. I also like seeing some of the environment because it’s so different from here.
The environment in the Mallee is stunning Harry, I really love it. I posted a fb image to show you a little more and have another in mind for later. Thank you for your kind comments.
Excellent, love that last photo Kim 🙂
Thanks heaps Bill No 2 🙂
